Schizophonics & Dale Crover Record Release Party

The Schizophonics join us at Signal EXP on Sunday, October 5, a record release party for Burning Floor, their fourth album and first for Alternative Tentacles, with Dale Crover of the Melvins on the bill. You can catch them the next night at the broadway in Brooklyn with Descartes A Kant.

If you don't know the band: a San Diego trio, Pat Beers on guitar and vocals, Lety Beers on drums, Sarah Linton on bass, who have spent years building a reputation across fourteen countries as the act that turns a room upside down. Alternative Tentacles calls the record a "fuzz-soaked, funk-fueled sonic attack." That's the label's language, and having watched the footage, it isn't marketing. Pat plays guitar the way other people fall down stairs. The lineage runs through James Brown, Little Richard, the Sonics and Iggy, rock stripped back to the parts that are still dangerous.

The signing has a good story behind it. The band met Jello Biafra at a festival years ago; the label says they've been long-time fans. First single off the record is "Black Pleather."

And then there's Dale.

Crover has been the engine of the Melvins since 1984. His new one, Get Yer Ba-Ba's Out, came out September 4 on Joyful Noise, six tracks, all acoustic, opening with Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" spliced into the Melvins' "The Bit." It grew out of short acoustic sets he played opening for Redd Kross, and it's the reason a night like this works in a room like ours. 

Also, very cool that Sarah Linton plays bass on that EP. Same Sarah Linton who plays bass in the Schizophonics. Same Sarah that played Cardboards Sessions a few years back. These records were made by the same handful of people, and on October 5 all of them are standing in our shop.
